Amaryllis – winter drama at its best

Amaryllis – winter drama at its best

Few flowers set the tone for winter like amaryllis. Sculptural, confident, and long-lasting—just as beautiful on its own in a vase as it is paired with cool winter greens.

Seasonal favorite: spider amaryllis

This year, spider amaryllis is particularly eye-catching – with slender, star-shaped petals and an airy, almost dancing silhouette. The look is light, modern, and playful in a way that brings the room to life. Our current favorites are Tango, Merengue, and Tarantela – each with its own rhythm and personality, and all equally beautiful in simple, contemporary styling.

A tip from a florist at The Mayflower

Amaryllis don't have to be tall. We often cut them shorter and place them in a regular vase. This makes the blooms appear fuller, more relaxed, and contemporary—perfect for a coffee table, kitchen island, or anywhere you want to make an impact without extra height.

Classics we always return to

Spindle amaryllis may take center stage this year, but the classic varieties continue to impress:

  • Rilona – soft apricot tones that provide warmth and radiance
  • Darling – crisp white and self-evident in its expression
  • Candy – caramel-striped charm that brings joy
  • Loyalty – a secure, festive red for those who love color
  • Royal Velvet – deep, velvety tones with a hint of wine red

Whether you're looking for something bold or subtle, playful or dramatic, there's an amaryllis for every home—and every mood—this season.

Quick care tips for longer durability

  • Cut the stem at an angle and keep the water level low (amaryllis drinks well even at low levels).
  • Change the water frequently and re-cut the flowers as needed.
  • Support the stem with tape if it cracks; shorter lengths give a more stable impression.
  •  With proper care, cut amaryllis can last for up to two weeks.
